さてお土産屋さんの誘惑を振り切りながらやっとメインの永源寺に着きました。

永源寺とは、滋賀県東近江市にある臨済宗永源寺派の本山。紅葉の美しさと、コンニャクでも知られてるそうです。

1361年（康安元年）に当時の近江守護・六角氏頼により、正燈国師寂室元光を開山として開創されました。
開山当時の永源寺は、五十六坊の末庵と2000人の修行僧を抱え、応仁の乱の頃には京都五山の僧が難を逃れてやってくる大寺院でしたが、1492年（明応元年）および1563年（永禄6年）の兵火で焼失し、衰微してしまいました。
寛永年間に別峰紹印禅師やその弟子・空子和尚によって再興され、当時の高僧であった一絲文守禅師が迎えられて伽藍が整えられました。

「方丈」は本堂ともなっていて、1765年（明和2年）の再建。本尊「世継観世音菩薩」を安置する、葭葺の大屋根が見事な建物が印象的でした。　（下の写真。）

After walking through the trail filled with the gorgeous Momiji trees, we finally got to see Eigen-ji.

Eigen-ji :  One of fourteen autonomous branches of the Rinzai school of Japanese Zen, founded in 1361 by the lord of Ōmi province—Sasaki Ujiyori. The temple is located in modern day Shiga prefecture of Japan. It was a popular destination for members of the Five Mountain Schools of Zen during the Onin War of the 15th century. After a series of fires that burned the place down during the late 15th and first half of the 16th century, a newly installed Abbot named Isshi Bunshu restored the temple and is commonly referred to as its second founder. Today it is the head temple of the Eigen-ji branch of Rinzai Zen, and governs more than 120 temples and one monastery. (Wikipedia)

紅葉の色が真っ赤だけではなく緑、黄色，赤と混じっているのが良かったですね。

さ、お昼の時間です。お寺のすぐ近くにあるこじんまりしたお蕎麦／うどんやさん。

おばあちゃん二人でキッチンの中で忙しそうにしてました。

Lunch time. We found this little soba/udon kitchen run by two grandmothers. Cute!

ひとつひとつ心のこもったお蕎麦を作ってくれました。

きつねそば。山菜とおネギもしっかり入ってました。

七味もぱっぱと。

Shichimi (seven flavour chilli pepper) adds a nice little flavour in the soup.

これは地元で作っているきゅうりのお漬け物。おいしかったです。

They shared us some cucumber pickles that they made locally and organically there. Delicious!

滋賀県でもここで見れる紅葉は特別にきれいだったと思います。日本ならではの観光楽しんできました。
